About Us

My name is Tom Pales and I live in Silverton Village, just north of Exeter, Devon, England with my wife, 2 young sons and Sophie the labrador.

The idea for a rehab cycling service came after my fathers` stroke in 2002 made him housebound. I wanted to give him the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding countryside and to feel active again.

It worked for my father and has gone on to work for others.

From October 2010 to March 2020 we have taken housebound clients across Devon over 15,000 miles.

I have a degree in Health and Social Work from Plymouth University. Before starting Freetrike I gained experience in the following:

  • Community Support Worker for Headway Devon, providing care for 27 clients across Devon with head injuries and Stroke.

  • Cycle Development Officer for Cycling UK.

  • National Standard Instructor for Devon County Council providing Bikeability cycle training to schools and adults with disabilities across Devon.

Freetrike has experience working with clients of all ages with disabilities including:

STROKE - PARKINSONS - MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS - CEREBRAL PALSY - AMPUTATION - HEAD INJURY- SPINAL CHORD INJURY - VISUAL IMPAIRMENT - DEMENTIA- POTS -  EDS
